What Do I Treat?

First of all lets clarify some terms

What do your “back” and “neck” include?

Spine – Protective column that surrounds your central nervous system, and supporting muscles

Discs – The cushions that act as shock absorbers between your vertebrae

Muscular support – This includes the muscles, ligaments, and tendons that move and protect your spine

What are common causes of back and neck pain?

Disc bulge or herniation is damage to the fluid between the vertebrae

Disc bulge is when a gelatin like mass squeezes out and thus creates a “bulge”

This can be extremely painful as it irritates the surrounding nerves, however it can also go undetected as some patients feel no pain

A disc herniation is when the gelatin like capsule ruptures

Typically very painful and can often refer a great deal of pain to the other parts of the body

Spinal or joint Misalignment

Can be a result of stress, injury or toxins causing the joint or joints to be restricted in their ranges of motion or of of their correct position altogether

Can be extremely painful

Can cause muscular spasms to protect the instability of the joint

Muscular, tendon, ligament sprain/strain

Sprain is when a ligament is taken to excessive range of motion

Strain is when a tendon or muscle is taken to an excessive range of motion

Usually through activity or accident

Back is particularly susceptible as it stretches too far when lifting and twisting and object

High levels of pain, swelling or bruising

Realignment and soft tissue therapy very effective at resolution

Stress and back pain

Simply put stress causes pain

Horomones from stress are released and diffused though the body which can cause tension or muscle spasms

Trigger points

This is when there is an accumulation of tension in a particular area

Trigger points are extremely painful to endure but can be fixed with soft tissue therapy as well as spinal realignment
